Starting Men IN Golf (SMING)

Based on Laurel Opray’s SWING program, the SMING program is for men transitioning from novice to competent social golfer, with a view to club membership.

Headland Golf Club Pro Shop is offering this golf program to new male golfers, and those who are returning to golf.

The SMING program’s aims are:

  • Through golf clinics and playing 9 holes once a month give the participants an opportunity to sample the golf club and its facilities, prior to making the commitment to more regular golf and/or potential club membership.
  • To make new members feel supported, encouraged and at ease and be given as much help as required in order for them become confident as they settle into club life.

A summary of the SMING program is:

  • Every second Friday we meet at 3:20pm in the Pro Shop with the clinic and or holes starting at 3:30pm, where Club Professional Adam Norlander will provide tuition/tips to help expedite the cycle of improvement. Topics such as Full swing, chipping, pitching, bunkers, putting will be covered in the clinics and whilst on course we will be working on things like course management, etiquette and rules.
  • The cost of the clinic is $20 per session. If you don’t have your own clubs that’s fine we have clubs for you to use, free of charge. Then head to the clubhouse for a cold beverage and the best and most expansive views of the Sunshine Coast.

Men can join in the program at any stage during the year. The program lasts until participants are ready to gain a handicap if desired. The player will then be able to graduate to full membership or play socially with confidence.
