Richards and Purnell Prevail in Play-Off

Adam Richards and Sharon Purnell are the 2024 Headland Golf Club Mixed Foursomes Champions, after claiming victory on the first play-off hole this afternoon.  Adam and Sharon were tied with Shane Muller and Robyn Muir on a 36-hole total of 164.

Shane and Robyn recorded scores of 81.83, while Adam and Sharon shot 84 in the morning round, and came home with 80 in the afternoon.

After Adam put Sharon to about 3.5m on the 18th hole in the play-off, with Shane missing the green up the path to the right, Sharon nervously lagged the putt down to allow Adam to clean up the par putt for victory.

It was the first Mixed Foursomes Championship for Adam and Sharon as a pair, but Adam had previously won the title twice – ironically with Robyn Muir both times. Sharon secured her first-ever Club Championship, while for Richards, it was his 19th!

The Mixed Foursomes Championship is sponsored by CIRLOCK, thanks to the generous support of Erik and Tove Larsen.

BUNKER RENOVATION PROJECT

In April 2023, the Club commenced construction on a $1M+ Bunker Renovation Project. The project has gone exceptionally well, and the feedback has been very positive. Unfortunately, significant rainfall through the Jan-May period has delayed the final stage of this project. Presently, the only holes not complete – and their current status, are as follows:
      •
        • • 9th hole – Bunker works complete. The left two-thirds of this green have been raised quite considerably, and the hole remains out of play until the grass coverage on the new section of the green is up to putting standard. The 9th hole should re-open sometime in June.

          • • 17th hole – New green complex growing in. Bunkers are yet to be concreted due to the wetness of this area. Tee is to be re-built, and some fill is being transported to the site, raising the first third of the area from tee to green. An opening time is not yet forecast for the 17th hole.

          • Hole 1B remains in play until the 9th is back, while the 10th will be split and played as a par 4 (10A) and a par 3 (10B) until 17th is complete.
The other 16 holes are complete, and all bunkers on these holes are in play.
